Executive MBA (EMBA) in Healthcare built to fit your life and learning style

For students in the Katz Executive MBA (EMBA) in Healthcare program, we offer a schedule to fit your life and learning style, which combines online core courses with on-campus electives and weekend sessions. You will have access to the same faculty, student services and career management assistance as our full-time students.

While the program has a rigorous 19-month schedule, it is designed it to meet the needs of clinicians and healthcare administrators who are managing demanding personal and professional obligations. Meeting two days a month in Pittsburgh—a thriving center of innovation in medicine, health systems and biotechnology—students form a close-knit cohort that represents a range of specialties, areas and employers.

Same Katz MBA. Healthcare Focus.

Same Quality Courses, Only Better

  • Courses are offered in face-to-face and online formats.
  • Both formats include the same high-quality content as courses taught in the full-time Katz MBA program, condensed into a 19-month timeframe— and with a healthcare focus.

Same Outstanding Faculty, Plus Experts

  • Courses are taught by the same faculty who teach in the full-time MBA program.
  • In addition, you’ll learn from faculty in other renowned Pitt schools, including health sciences, public health and law —as well as from guest lecturers who are leaders from across the spectrum of healthcare.

Convenient to Your Schedule

  • You’re required to be on campus only one weekend per month (Friday and Saturday), providing minimal disruption to your work schedule.
  • Online courses mean you can be anywhere, including in another country, and still be in class.

Experience-based Learning

Experienced-based learning (EBL) is central to the Katz experience. In the EMBA-H program, this opportunity is a research practicum that enables you to put your business education into practice in a healthcare setting by solving a real problem for your organization.

Over the course of five semesters, working individually or in small groups, you will investigate a business issue, both conceptualizing and designing a research project. Working closely with faculty, you will conduct field research and prepare an analysis of the business issue. As part of your final grade, you will present your findings to a panel of Katz faculty members and healthcare leaders.

Combined Strengths of Two World-class Institutions

EMBA-H is offered in collaboration with UPMC, a leader in the delivery of healthcare services. For its part, the University of Pittsburgh

  • has ranked among the top 10 recipients of National Institutes of Health research funding since 1998
  • is ranked by College Factual as the best U.S. school to study health professions, based on graduates’ earnings, strength of academic majors, number and quality of other closely related majors on campus, program accreditations and overall institutional quality
  • has health sciences schools ranked among the best in the United States according to U.S. News & World Report

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

Katz has the perfect combination of small class sizes that foster a great learning environment while simultaneously having the perks of a larger program like access to working with great companies and professors.

What makes Katz unique is the environment they cultivate for students right from the start. Katz encouraged a culture of collaboration, what I learned outside the classroom from my classmates has been just as valuable as what I learned from my professors.
