Grad Students’ Applications Due Nov. 27 for Super Analytics Challenge

All University graduate students have until Nov. 27 to apply for the fourth annual Super Analytics Challenge, hosted by the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business. This competition presents an opportunity for grad students from Pitt and four other universities to interact with corporate executives and harness the power of data analytics to serve as catalysts for change.

This year’s challenge will address workforce development: How to model the jobs of tomorrow to the current skills of our region’s population. The goal is to identify gaps in skills and uncover job pathways for people in our communities so that we capture future opportunities. Solving workforce development concerns aids societal and economic prosperity for all.

Students from unique backgrounds will team up to frame a problem, create a data methodology, and generate operable proposals for solutions. In addition, they will interact with a variety of senior technology and data executives at Fortune 500 corporations and local community organizations.

Teaming Up with Regional Universities

For the first time, students from regional partner universities will work alongside Pitt students. These partners include Carnegie Mellon University, Duquesne University, Penn State University, and West Virginia University.

A recording of the Nov. 10 information session is available via Panopto. Interested grad students can apply through this form. Ten teams of five students each will be created following a review of application materials. Participants should prepare for a time commitment, since they will take part in many activities leading up to the main challenge efforts in February.

As part of the Pitt Business’ commitment to using business as a force for good, the 2023 challenge focused on addressing the shortage of behavioral health and mental health workers. Students from the Swanson School of Engineering and the School of Public Health were recognized among Katz students.
