Jayant Rajgopal

Professor and Graduate Program Director The Swanson School of Engineering

Dr. Rajgopal's primary interests are in the theory, methodology, and applications of operations research. He also has a secondary interest in data mining and analytics.  His theoretical and methodological focus areas lie in deterministic and continuous optimization, and he has a special interest in geometric programming.  With respect to applications, his primary interests are in the broad field of production, supply chains and operations analysis, including such topics as distribution and logistics, inventory control, and process improvement.  He is currently focusing on two main application areas: (1) healthcare delivery, including the modeling and optimizing of vaccine distribution systems, hospital logistics and medical inventory management, and (2) the shale gas and unconventional energy supply chain.  In the past he has worked on topics such as geometric programming (a special class of convex, nonlinear programs), systems reliability optimization, applications of radio frequency identification (RFID) systems, and lean manufacturing.

Dr. Rajgopal is a Fellow of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE), a senior member of Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), and a member of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). He is also a registered professional engineer in the state of Pennsylvania.
