Pitt Business professor Vanitha Swaminathan has been named a coeditor for the Journal of Marketing, the premier scholarly journal in the marketing field, effective July 1, 2022. Swaminathan, the Thomas Marshall Professor of Marketing in Pitt’s Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business, previously served as an associate editor.

She will serve alongside Editor-in-Chief Shrihari Sridhar from Texas A&M, and coeditors Cait Lamberton from the University of Pennsylvania (formerly of Pitt Business) and Detelina Marinova from the University of Missouri.

Swaminathan was elected in 2020 to serve on the American Marketing Association (AMA) Board of Directors for a three-year term. Prior to her role on the board, she completed a four-year term on the Executive Committee of the AMA Academic Council where she served as president. Swaminathan’s research has been published in numerous marketing and management journals, including the Journal of MarketingJournal of Marketing ResearchJournal of Consumer ResearchMarketing Science, and Strategic Management Journal.  In 2020, she was awarded the Lehmann Award for the best dissertation-based article published in the Journal of Marketing and the Journal of Marketing Research. As the founder and director of the Center for Branding at Pitt Business, Swaminathan’s research focuses on branding strategy, with a particular emphasis on digital branding. In 2021, the center and Swaminathan were announced by Pitt’s Athletic Department as key partners in the “Forged Here,” initiative to equip student-athletes with the knowledge and resources necessary to maximize their brand and platform.
