STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

I am still in my first year and I have valued the time I have to focus on coursework and having a helpful mentor both in deciding which courses to take and how to make the most of them for my future research. The flexibility of getting to choose among so many courses is much valued and I am thrilled about getting more research-involved with several professors I have already met during my first year! As an international student, I also think Pittsburgh is quite a great place to live; open and familiar with international students, affordable, with a lot of things to do while not being as fast-paced/crazy as other cities in the US.

Gabe Pensamiento

Ph.D. Business Analytics & Operations

I think the most valued thing (at least for me) that sets Katz apart is the collaborative and harmonious relationship between faculty and doctoral students. There is a close mentorship in Katz and the professors really care about their student success. I have deeply been touched that no matter how busy the faculties are, and no matter if they are my advisor or not, they are always willing to help and to provide valuable feedbacks on my research at any time. Also, with a relatively small cohort of students, we could stay in close connection with each other. Like in Strategy group, we have regular research communications as well as happy hours. Pursuing a doctoral degree is no easy to anyone, but in Katz we know that we have each other’s back and this can be very stress-relieving
