Profile

As Senior Associate Dean, Dr. Sara Moeller provides strategic leadership for our school’s educational portfolio, including aligning offerings with market needs and the school’s mission, fostering innovation in teaching and learning modalities, and advancing educational partnerships across campus.

Dr. Moeller’s work on mergers and acquisitions and risk management has been widely cited and published in scholarly journals including the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics and Review of Financial Studies. In addition, her work has been presented at many conferences including the NBER Corporate Finance conference and has been cited in the press including The Economist, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and USA Today. Prior to joining the Katz Graduate School at the University of Pittsburgh, she was Assistant Professor of Finance at Southern Methodist University’s Cox School of Business and an Associate Professor of Finance at the graduate school at Wake Forest University.

Dr. Moeller is an award-winning teacher who has taught a variety of finance courses at the doctorate, executive, masters and undergraduate level. Her teaching interests are focused in the area of corporate finance.

Dr. Moeller, who is a tenured Associate Professor of Finance, earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with majors in finance and economics at the University of Iowa’s Henry B. Tippie College of Business, a Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in finance at the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Graduate School of Management, and both a Master of Arts (concentration, finance) and a PhD in finance at the Fisher School.

Before her career in academia, Dr. Moeller worked as a director of special projects at AJC International, a leader in the marketing of frozen and refrigerated food products, as well as in logistics and logistics services. Dr. Moeller managed and reengineered AJC’s international commodity/branded distribution business and implemented a risk management and business segment analysis. From 1986 to 1989, she was also a commodity trader for Cargill, Inc., an international provider of food, agricultural, and risk management products and services.
