Hail to Pitt

Pitt Business is deeply rooted in the business community and has an unbroken legacy of educating business leaders. Our students are introduced to influential alumni who are engaged, accessible, and far-reaching. Our alumni actively recruit our students for full-time positions and internships and can be found at leading companies in practically every industry, in nearly 90 countries, and in all 50 states. Pitt graduates are made up of business leaders, community champions, and do cutting-edge research.

Joseph M. Katz

Our graduate school is named after Joseph M. Katz (1913 to 1991), an entrepreneur who founded a gift-wrap manufacturing company, the Papercraft Corporation. On January 14, 1987, Pitt announced the largest donation in the school’s 200-year history: $10 million from Joseph and Agnes Katz. In the announcement, Mr. Katz said he wanted to support efforts to instill “a sense of the entrepreneurial spirit” in Pitt’s graduate business students.

He said: “Today, more than ever, large corporations as well as small firms acknowledge the need for entrepreneurial skills in their management structure. I believe that Pitt’s Graduate School of Business is one of the best schools in the country at advancing those skills.”

Throughout the years since that generous donation, the leadership, faculty, staff, and students have been inspired by the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business as a catalyst for entrepreneurial transformation.
