Your Path to Success Starts with a Business MS Degree

Whether you are a recent college graduate or a seasoned professional, a specialized business Master of Science (MS) degree lets you take a deep dive into a specific area of business. If your undergraduate degree isn’t in business, this degree is the perfect way to expand your career options.

At the University of Pittsburgh’s Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business, which is among the 5% of business schools with AACSB accreditation, we offer STEM-designated programs that bundle business analytics with all our specialty MS degrees. Here are summaries and links with details of the Katz MS degrees with comments from graduates to help you decide which one is right for you:

Accounting

Accounting and non-accounting undergraduate majors will learn the know-how required by employers. Develop the specialized skills essential for passing the CPA exam, distinguish yourself from other job candidates, and advance in all areas of accounting.

Finance

Learn the technical skills involved in everything from valuation to forecasting, to applying the time value of money, to building pro-forma financial statements. Gain a broad overview of the quantitative and qualitative aspects of finance as well as understand how to maximize value for a business or shareholder.

Management

Kelly Lu (MS ’24)

Combine the foundations of business with practical training and professional connections to prepare for careers in a broad range of industries or fields. Choose electives in an area of interest, such as entrepreneurship, consulting, or project management, and pursue development opportunities like Six Sigma Green Belt certification.

Kelly Lu (MS ’24) currently working as a senior analyst at Aspirant, did not come from a business background and says, “This master’s degree is a way to enter the industry and show employers I have the necessary skill set to succeed at my job.”

Management Information Systems

Information technology is a key driver of business and a powerful tool that can be used to generate value. Gain the technical skills and business knowledge needed to manage an organization’s IT resources. Choose electives from the School of Computing and Information for a customized degree to meet your personal objectives.

Some students, like Pearl Doe (MBA/MS ’23), decide to combine the MS in Management Information Systems degree with an MBA degree.

“Despite not knowing the coding or technical aspects of Management Information Systems, I persevered. My professors provided amazing support in learning Python and R. This learning journey has opened up a new world of discovery for me,” says Doe, a product marketing manager at Microsoft.
